Governing Body

OUR GOVERNING BODY

School governing bodies are responsible for working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good quality education. Together with the headteacher, who is responsible for day-to-day management, they set the school's aims and policies.

Key roles of governors:

  • To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • To hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
  • To oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent

They also carry out a number of other important duties, which include:

  • Determining how the school's budget is spent
  • The appointing and dismissing of staff
  • Hearing appeals and grievances
  • Forming policy on the school's curriculum and collective worship
  • Setting standards for pupils' behaviour and discipline
  • Making sure school buildings are welcoming and safe
  • Setting and monitoring the school's aims and policies

The requirements for all maintained schools (regulation 13) state that a governing body must not be smaller than seven members and must include:

  • At least two parent governors
  • The headteacher, unless the headteacher resigns as governor
  • One, and only one, staff governor
  • One, and only one local authority governor

The governing body may appoint as many additional co-opted governors as they consider necessary within the statutory guidelines.

As of 19th September 2017 our Governing Body consists of;

3 Parent Governors ~ Mrs Emilie Askew, Mr Dominic Collins and Mrs Becky Humphries

4 Co-Opted Governors ~ Miss Kirsty Blackman, Mrs Sharon Sciattano, Mrs Debbie Switzer and Father Richard Tillbrook

1 Local Authority Governor ~ Mrs Julia Stephens

1 Staff Governor ~ Mr Chris Wheeler

1 Headteacher ~ Amanda Mitchelson

Father Richard, after many years, has stepped down as Chair of Governors of Old Heath Community Primary School. Father Richard will be remaining on the Governing Body to continue supporting both the Governing Body and the school. We would very much like to thank Father Richard for all his time, patience and knowledge as Chair.

Mr Dominic Collins has succeeded Father Richard to the role of Chair, with Father Richard stepping into the role of Vice Chair.
