Over the last year Old Heath Primary School has been expanding residential opportunities for our older children. Historically the Year 6 have had a long weekend at the Kingswood Centre in West Runton. Last year Y4 & Y5 had the opportunity to do a weekend at Kingswood. Initially 30 places were booked; in the end we took 48 children! The Y6 residential weekend was moved to Grosvenor Hall, Kingswood’s biggest centre in the UK and enjoyed the comforts of ‘glamping’ in their Adventure Lodges!
For 2017/18 our residential opportunities have been organised so that they develop children’s independence, offer a range of opportunities and extend actual time away.
Year 4s have the opportunity to stay Friday to Sunday at Kingswood West Runton in February 2018.
Year 5s have the opportunity to stay Friday to Monday, ‘glamping’ in the Adventure Lodges at Grosvenor Hall in May 2018
Kingswood offers a range of physical challenges; climbing wall, abseiling, zip wire, ‘Jungle Vines’ and ‘Power Fan’ as well as new skills with fencing, archery plus lots of opportunities to work as a team and develop team/leadership skills.
Year 6s have the opportunity for a week-long trip in June to the North York Moors. We will be staying at the YHA Helmsley with visits to Helmsley Castle, National Birds of Prey Centre, Whitby beach, walking the old Railway Track from Goathland, and hopefully a sailing day with North Yorkshire Outdoors Education Team.
Families who are in receipt of Free School Meals or entitled to Pupil Premium can be offered some financial support.
