Equalities

Old Heath Community Primary School encourages all children to meet life’s challenges and offers opportunities to develop potential. We:

  • Provide a caring, happy and safe environment
  • Encourage independence in thought and action so that children develop self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Promote trust, respect, empathy & tolerance
  • Challenge our learners to learn, persevere, take risks and achieve and celebrate success

Old Heath children declare this is their own way through their vision statement. This was re-edited during the first half term of Autumn 2021

We want to be kind-hearted, patient, trust-worthy and have a sense of humour!                                                                                                          We understand the importance of equality, including others and being included ourselves.                                                                                      We want to feel safe & protected and others to feel the same too.                                                                                                                                Treating others as we would expect to be treated.                                                                                                                                                                      We need to work hard to learn and be proud of our achievements.                                                                                                                                        Ensure that we are bold in speaking up for ourselves but that we can also listen to others and their ideas & opinions.                                        We need to develop our ability to persevere with difficulties and be resilient.                                                                                                                    We need an awareness of ‘taking a risk’ and being ‘adventurous’ in our thoughts and actions.                                                                                Throughout our school years and into our futures we want to be valiant, confident, determined and to be positive about our amazing selves!

We are developing a new equalities plan for publication at the next Governing Body meeting in February 2022 which will set out our commitment and approach to equalities. The ethos of the school is based on mutual respect and consideration for others. In accordance with this ethos, we pledge:

  • to respect the equal human rights of all our pupils;
  • to educate them about equality; and
  • to respect the equal rights of our staff and other members of the school community.

We assess our school practices and implement all necessary resulting actions in relation to:

  • ethnicity;
  • religion or belief;
  • socio-economic background;
  • gender and gender identity;
  • disability;
  • sexual orientation; and
  • age.

We work to promote community cohesion at school, local, national and global levels, comparing our school community to its local and national context and implementing all necessary actions in relation to:

  • ethnicity;
  • religion or belief; and
  • socio-economic background.

Our new plan will set out details of how we reflect our commitment to equality in relation to teaching and learning; the curriculum; the provision of guidance and support; behaviour and attendance; our partnership with parents and pupils, admissions and premises.  It will also include our updated Accessibility Plan.
